L’Oréal and IBM have teamed up to create an innovative generative AI (GenAI) foundation model aimed at transforming cosmetic formulation with a strong emphasis on sustainability. The collaboration combines L’Oréal’s expertise in cosmetic science with IBM’s cutting-edge AI technology to accelerate the development of beauty products that are sustainable, inclusive, and innovative.
IBM’s generative AI will analyze vast datasets on cosmetic formulations, enabling L’Oréal researchers to develop and reformulate products using renewable, bio-sourced, and circular economy materials. This initiative aligns with L’Oréal’s “L’Oréal for the Future” sustainability goals, which aim to ensure that most product formulas are made from sustainable materials by 2030.
The AI model will empower L’Oréal’s 4,000 global researchers to enhance product formulation, reformulation, and scale-up production, promoting greater inclusivity and personalization in their offerings. IBM’s expertise in AI-driven chemistry and data analysis will help optimize formulation processes, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
This partnership marks a significant step toward ecological responsibility and innovation in the beauty and personal care industry, meeting the growing demand for eco-friendly solutions.
