Michael O’Keefe, CEO of Aesop for over two decades, has announced his decision to step down, with the brand’s owner, L’Oréal, yet to appoint a successor.
The announcement comes after a landmark year for the Australian fragrance label, which reported sales exceeding US$1 billion. Japan has emerged as Aesop’s largest market, with rapid growth also seen in Korea and China, according to Inside Retail.
O’Keefe, reflecting on his tenure, told AFR Weekend: “At any company, there is a time that a CEO should be there.” He plans to take a sabbatical before embarking on his next professional venture.
His departure marks a significant transition for Aesop, a brand renowned for its minimalist aesthetic and premium products, as it continues to expand under L’Oréal’s ownership.
