Beebe Healthcare is now offering the Amma device, a portable scalp cooling system aimed at helping cancer patients reduce hair loss during chemotherapy. Developed by Cooler Heads, the Amma device works by cooling the scalp to 65 degrees, which helps protect hair follicles from the damaging effects of chemotherapy drugs, offering patients a chance to preserve their appearance throughout treatment.

“Cancer is a difficult journey, and from our experience with patients, we know that hair loss can be an emotional challenge,” said Maurice Winkfield, Executive Director of Beebe Oncology and Ancillary Services. “The Amma device provides hope by preserving hair follicles and, most importantly, helping patients maintain their sense of self during their treatment.”

The FDA-cleared Amma device, created by a breast cancer survivor, is a more affordable option compared to other cold cap systems. It comes with a tote bag, educational materials, and accessories to help patients use the device effectively throughout their chemotherapy journey.
