Pamela Anderson has embraced a makeup-free lifestyle, and her fans are loving it. The “Baywatch” star, known for her iconic, makeup-heavy looks, decided to forgo cosmetics last August, marking a significant shift in how she is perceived as a sex symbol and public figure. Her bold move gained considerable attention, especially when she appeared at Paris Fashion Week without makeup, generating a significant buzz.
In a recent cover story by Better Homes & Gardens, Anderson, now 57, shared insights into her new, simpler life on Vancouver Island, Canada, and her decision to abandon makeup. The actress revealed that the reaction from fans has been unexpectedly positive. She recounted:
“I have people stop me on the street now and say, ‘You know, I never liked you before, but I do now.’ And then I think, ‘Hmm, I know there’s a compliment in there somewhere.’”
Anderson’s transition to a makeup-free lifestyle stemmed from her reluctance to spend hours in a makeup chair. She explained to the magazine for their September 2024 Stylemaker issue:
“It just happened to be this silly thing. … I was appreciating it as this girl who lives on Vancouver Island that got plopped into these glamorous clothes. I felt like this little freckle-faced kid with a big, beautiful Vivienne Westwood hat on.”
For Anderson, going without makeup was not about achieving perfection but rather redefining her concept of beauty:
“But somewhere along the way, I started thinking that I want to challenge the idea of beauty and this mask we put on. As soon as I took the mask off, the whole world opened up.”
The decision to go makeup-free allowed Anderson to let go of the image she had created for herself over the years:
“That was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself. What is this cartoon character that I’d created? OK, that was fun. But I’m not that person anymore.”
Her family, including her sons Dylan Jagger Lee, 26, and Brandon Thomas Lee, 28, who co-own Sonsie Beauty with her, fully support her new look. Anderson shared:
“All the kids were always at our house. I cooked for everybody, pots of spaghetti for the neighborhood, and so my kids have always seen that part of me. … Those other things are the only things people think of their mom. ‘Yes, she’s been in Playboy. Yes, she’s done all these things, but we know who she is.’ It’s different now.”
